The Under Secretary of State,

Sir,

Colonial Office,

S. W. 1.

11th September, 1935.

33734/34.

I am desired to refer to your letter of the

11th December last and to enquire whether the Secretary of

State may yet be able to afford the Council of the Institute

further information regarding the leave and passage conditions

of Assistants in the Laboratory of the Government Analyst,

Hong Kong.

I understand that unmarried Assistants, who originally

went out to Hong Kong with first class passages, now prefer to

come home by cargo boat rather than travel second class by P. & 0.,

but a married Assistant with a family cannot very well do that,

and finds himself associated with non-professional Civil Servants.

The Council would be very glad to know whether the

Secretary of State has been able to prevail upon the Hong Kong

Government to consider the matter.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Evcha

Registrar and Secretary.
